This new tour, which complements the "Trou de mémoire" booklet available from the Fumel-Vallée du Lot tourist office, takes visitors on a tour of the workers' housing estates of the former Fumel metallurgical plant.
As early as 1874, the 1st blast furnace made its mark on this agricultural plain linked to the River Lot.
The Compagnie d'Orléans, then Pont-à-Mousson, soon began offering for rent or sale workers' housing and houses for engineers and foremen.
Today, these emblematic towns have been classified as twentieth-century heritage sites, and Métal Temple Aquitaine has ceased all activity.
The guided tour evokes the daily lives of their former inhabitants, as you read about the styles of the houses, the materials used in their construction, their layout, street names, etc.
